Before you travel
Check the IMD Shimla bulletin and HPSDMA site the morning of travel, not the day before — mountain weather changes fast.
During monsoon (June–September), road closures from landslides are common on higher routes — confirm your route is open before setting out.
Download offline maps in advance; network connectivity is unreliable in remote and high-altitude areas.
Avoid riverbanks, dry riverbeds, and stream crossings during and after heavy rain — flash floods can rise with little warning.
Save both helpline numbers above before you travel, not just when you need them.
Links point to official government sources. Verify current advisories directly on each site before travelling.
